Concept / Idea
This project was created for Kind Designs, a construction-tech company that develops 3D-printed Living Seawalls designed to mimic natural mangrove root structures. The goal was to visualize how these biomimicry seawalls would integrate into public waterfront parks and residential shorelines in Miami. The renders were meant to highlight both the engineering precision and the ecological benefits of the system, showcasing a balance between urban infrastructure and marine habitat restoration.
Objectives
- Produce photorealistic renderings of existing Living Seawall designs in natural Miami coastal environments.
- Visualize new Living Tile variations for future product lines.
- Ensure accurate structural detailing, including:
- King & Batter piles between each panel.
- Continuous concrete cap with realistic shading.
- Emphasize marine ecology with oysters and algae placement in the intertidal zone.
- Present both park and residential site variations with clear, natural daylight setups.
Process
The project began with detailed CAD drawings and design references provided by the client.
- Modeling: All 3D assets, including seawall panels, piles, and cap elements, were modeled in 3ds Max.
- Scene Setup: A full waterfront park environment was created — palm trees, promenade, and shallow coastal water typical of Miami.
- Rendering: Using Corona Renderer, soft daylight and realistic reflections were calibrated to capture the atmosphere of Miami’s waterfront.
- Client Revisions:
- Added King & Batter piles between panels (removing gaps).
- Enhanced concrete cap overhang with accurate shadows.
- Adjusted scenery to remove mountains and ponds, ensuring flat horizon line.
- Added marine elements — oysters in the intertidal zone, algae below waterline.
- Post-Production: Minor tone balancing and composition refinements were completed in Adobe Photoshop.
Outcome / Key Features
- High-fidelity renders showcasing both structural accuracy and ecological richness.
- 4K-quality stills suitable for presentation and marketing materials.
- Two main environments:
- Public park set up with a promenade and palm trees.
- Private residential shoreline with calm water reflections.
- Visuals successfully communicated Kind Designs’ eco-engineering concept — resilient, sustainable, and aesthetically integrated waterfront infrastructure.
Tools
- Modeling: 3ds Max
- Rendering: Corona Renderer
- Post-Production: Adobe Photoshop
