GlassOptions – Studio Visualization of Architectural Glass Types

Concept / Idea
This project was developed to create a high-fidelity product visualization series demonstrating different architectural glass types under identical lighting and compositional conditions.
The purpose was to simulate how each glass behaves optically — refraction, reflection, tint, and light diffusion — in a controlled studio environment with a single, consistent background object (a yellow ceramic vase).
Each image presents a different glass material variation, allowing customers to compare clarity, transparency, and color characteristics.
Objectives
- Showcase six main glass types + one mirror option in consistent visual setup.
- Achieve physically accurate refraction and reflection behavior for each glass type.
- Ensure all materials are rendered in identical studio lighting for fair visual comparison.
- Deliver photo-realistic renders that match real-world glass behavior, including Fresnel reflections and light distortion.

Process
Modeled and rendered using SketchUp + V-Ray, post-processed in Adobe Photoshop.
Workflow summary:
- Created a neutral, reflective studio scene to capture accurate light interactions.
- Set up calibrated HDRI-based lighting with soft reflections and white background.
- Applied physically correct IOR (index of refraction) and transmission settings per glass type.
- Introduced a single yellow matte vase for color reference and reflection contrast.
- Rendered at 5000×5000 px resolution for product catalog and digital marketing usage.

Outcome / Key Features
- Clear Glass – standard transparency with natural reflection and neutral color.
- Low Iron Glass – higher clarity with minimal green tint.
- Frosted Glass – diffused translucency with soft light scatter and subtle edge definition.
- Reeded Glass (Clear & Gray) – linear pattern distortion with accurate depth refraction.
- Tinted Glass – neutral color filter with controlled light transmission.
- Mirror Option – enhanced reflection and natural environment bounce, visualized with LED rim lighting.
All renders were color-calibrated and realism-tested, ensuring fidelity to real material properties used in architectural glass manufacturing.
Tools
- Modeling: SketchUp
- Rendering: V-Ray
- Post-Production: Adobe Photoshop

Visuals
- Frosted Glass – soft translucency, obscured vase form.
- Low Iron & Clear Glass – high light transmission, crisp refraction.
- Reeded Glass (Clear & Gray) – detailed vertical distortion lines.
- Tinted Glass – subtle tonal variation with warm reflection.
- Mirror Variant – realistic wall-mounted setup with backlighting.
A precise material study demonstrating the physical beauty of glass — from transparency to texture — visualized under uniform studio lighting to ensure accurate comparison and premium presentation.
